Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Security Therapy Aide II for the Treatment and Detention Center located in Rushville, Illinois to maintain the security, safety, and sanitation under conditions on an assigned shift/post for a 24/7 maximum security facility, other work areas, residents, and staff. Performs routine tasks pertaining to the protection, security, therapy, and sanitation in a secure residential facility for sexually violent residents. Serves as designated lead worker. Logs and monitors the distribution of keys, security devices, radios, and cell phones for use in the assigned post, writ team and movement staff. Monitors resident activity on and off the assigned post. Alerts supervisor to unusual circumstances within the facility. Actively participates in the facility training program. Interacts with residents to mediate disputes, redirect inappropriate behavior. Transports residents to court appearances, medical appointments and other needs outside of the facility. Responds to emergency situations.

 

Job Responsibilities

  1. Maintains the security, safety and sanitation under conditions on an assigned shift/post for a 24/7 maximum security facility, other work areas, residents and staff.
  2. Serves as designated lead worker.
  3. Logs, monitors, and maintains an accurate perpetual inventory and distribution of keys, security devices, radios, cell phones, restraints, and other security equipment for use by the unit, writ team and movement staff.
  4. Interacts with residents to mediate disputes, redirect inappropriate behavior, explain rules, procedures and to support therapeutic, recreational, vocational, behavioral and/or safety plans.
  5. Actively participates in the facility training program.
  6. Responds to emergency situations requiring quick, agile movement, running, climbing, lifting, bending, twisting, and grasping.
  7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  2. Requires two (2) years’ experience as a Security Therapy Aide, including successful completion of an approved Security Therapy Aide Training Program or equivalent experience.

 

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires possession of an appropriate valid driver’s license.
  2. Requires the ability to travel in performance of job duties.
  3. Requires the ability to physically restrain residents as necessary to prevent injury to resident or others.
  4. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  5. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
